Convergence India 2012: Ericsson Television to strengthen focus in Indian telecom market

Telecom Lead India: Ericsson Television said it will be
strengthening its focus in Indian telecom market. It will be launching a slew
of new products aimed at television channels market in 2012.

The company has decided to focus on Voyager II DSNG,
Ericsson’s fifth generation DSNG solution, in India. Voyager II features a
fully functional front panel re-engineered bottom-up to meet the demand of the
mobile environment, including ease of operations, quick menu access, and
effective monitoring.

The solution is backed by Ericsson’s engineering and
operational support services, available 24x7x365 around the globe. Voyager II
represents the most advanced DSNG unit in the Indian market, offering
broadcasters, operators and service providers the level of integration,
flexibility and scalability necessary to future-proof any operational
investment during technology migration.

India is one of the fastest growing markets for us. We
will also be focusing on Media Delivery Network in India,” said Vineet
Somakumar, regional sales manager – Saarc countries, Ericsson Television.

Increasing consumer demand for internet-based video
services is causing a huge growth in traffic across all types of networks. This
trend has placed increased demand on operators to carry video traffic access their
networks, with little incremental revenue in return.

Ericsson’s Media Delivery Network gives operators the
ability to manage this growth, by efficiently delivering video and media
content across their network to their subscribers.

Ericsson claims that operators can reduce peering costs
and network load. Moreover, it enables the operators to generate revenue by
providing CDN services to external content providers.

Using Ericsson’s Media Delivery Network, operators are
enabled to take a greater role in the media delivery value chain.
Operator-owned MDN systems allow the content owners to have a closer reach the
subscriber, adding value to their content.

Ericsson has already signed up with two-three clients for
MDN. MDN is an integral part of Ericsson’s end-to-endless television offering.
