Cavium to associate with Intel on providing wireless display consumer experience

Cavium, a provider of semiconductor products, announced a
technology and marketing collaboration with chip major Intel to offer Intel
WiDi-based products designed to enable superior wireless display consumer
experience.

The end-to-end solution will combine Intel WiDi’s
innovation with Cavium’s super low latency technology and advanced video
processing techniques to further enhance Intel WiDi’s interactivity and broaden
its target applications.

As a part of the marketing collaboration, Intel and
Cavium will work together to expand and grow the market for wireless display
products. A range of OEMs will soon be offering Intel WiDi compatible receivers
with Cavium’s PureVu media SoC.

“Through this collaboration with Cavium, we expect
our customers to be able to offer products with a broader range of wireless
display capabilities, which in turn should translate to more choices and
enhanced experience for consumers,”  said Kerry Forell, Product Manager at
Intel Corporation.

The solution leverages Cavium’s highly integrated, low
latency PureVu media processors. Along with the fully interactive wireless
display solutions, customers can deliver a new line of Intel WiDi compatible
receivers that offer best-in-class wireless content sharing for next generation
Intel notebooks, tablets, and handsets.

“Both companies are fully committed to the WiFi
Alliance’s wireless display standardization efforts. This collaboration will
bring together the best of what the two companies have to offer to further
enhance the wireless display market to deliver products that enable seamless
content-sharing,” said Kourosh Amiri, senior director of Marketing at Cavium’s
Digital Home and Office Division.

Last year, Cavium announced the launch of OCTEON Fusion Family, the powerful,
small cell “Base Station-on-a-chip” family designed for LTE and 3G small
cell base stations, including picocell and micro base stations.
