At CES 2014, chip vendor Broadcom introduced a new software development kit (SDK) to its Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) portfolio to enable HD audio streaming over Wi-Fi networks.
In a statement, Broadcom said WICED Audio SDK provides an innovative solution that delivers audio content directly to speakers from any device connected to the Wi-Fi network, without the use of a docking station or cable.
The company said the new SDK includes pre-integrated Apple AirPlay support. Home media devices can connect to products like smart TVs, portable speakers, media players, set-top boxes, sound bars and more, using the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) standard or an advanced streaming application for Android. WICED Audio improves synchronization and offers significant benefits that enable multiple configurations with multiple speakers on the same Wi-Fi network.
Broadcom’s WICED platform eases development and simplifies implementation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity in an array of consumer devices, particularly in products without sophisticated user interfaces or existing networking capabilities.
The Broadcom WICED Audio SDK is now sampling with reference modules and an SDK that enables fast time to market and simplified system integration.
