Xiaomi is expected to grab third place in the global smartphone market in 2021 – behind Samsung and Apple.
China-based Xiaomi will solidify its grip on third place in the Western European markets after Apple and Samsung, Strategy Analytics report said.
“For 2021, Xiaomi will emerge as the third largest global smartphone vendor surpassing Huawei. Xiaomi has been performing well in the India and Russia markets, and has also been very aggressive in Central & Eastern Europe and Western Europe,” Abhilash Kumar, smartphone analyst at Strategy Analytics, said in the report.
Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo will be the top five smartphone suppliers in the world during 2021. The report indicates that Huawei will be out of the top-five list of smartphone vendors as the tech firm continues to face challenges due to US restrictions due to security issues.
The global smartphone shipments will grow at 6.5 percent to 1.38 billion in 2021 — driven mostly by the improved economic situation, a growing stock of aging smartphones and the operator / vendor push for migration to 5G.
Vivo, Xiaomi and OPPO will become top three smartphone suppliers in Asia Pacific driven by aggressive marketing, expanding channel footprints and competitive pricing.
Transsion will pass Samsung as the largest vendor in Africa & Middle East with Samsung falling to second place.
According to IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphone shipments are forecast to grow 13.9 percent year over year in the first quarter of 2021 and 5.5 percent for the full year 2021.
