Airtel lands the new SEA-ME-WE 6 in Chennai
Bharti Airtel has landed the new SEA-ME-WE 6 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-West Europe-6, or SMW6) in Chennai. The company had already landed the cable in Mumbai on December 30, 2024.
These cable landings were completed by SubCom, a supplier of subsea fiber optic cable data systems responsible for the engineering, manufacture and installation of SEA-ME-WE-6. The 21,700 Rkm submarine cable system connects India to Singapore and France (Marseille) crossing Egypt through terrestrial cables.
Tele chips Launches AXON Network Processor for Mobility Applications
Tele chips has launched AXON, a network processor designed for mobility applications. AXON System on Chip (SoC) supports safety and performance for automotive and mobility industries. It helps enable Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) with improvements in processing performance, data, and network security. The product includes features that support next-generation vehicle architectures.
Ellijay Deploys GO Care OutageIQ for Network Outage Management
Ellijay Telephone Company (ETC) has deployed GO Care OutageIQ to manage broadband network outages and subscriber communication. The system provides real-time notifications for outages caused by disruptions or maintenance. This solution reduces contact centre calls and operational costs. GO Care’s system works with various broadband technologies and helps improve customer engagement and communication during service interruptions.
Swisscom to hike salary
Swisscom said it will increase salaries by 1.3 percent in 2025. This is the outcome of salary negotiations between Swisscom and its social partners, the trade union syndicom and the staff association transfair.
Mobile Industry’s Growth in Neutral Hosted Networks (NHN)
The mobile industry is seeing growth in Neutral Hosted Networks (NHN), offering solutions for cellular coverage inside buildings. Mobile Experts released a report on technologies like Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) and MORAN, which are becoming popular in smaller venues as alternatives to Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). These solutions support private cellular networks and public access for building users. The report shows a rise in managed services for NHNs, moving investment from carriers to businesses.
Premium Smartphones Market Share Climbs to 25 percent in 2024
The share of premium smartphones in the global market has reached 25 percent in 2024, up from 15 percent in 2020. The premium segment grew by 8 percent, outpacing the overall smartphone market growth of 5 percent. Ultra-premium smartphones, priced above 1,000 dollar’s, now make up over 40 percent of premium smartphone sales. The premium smartphone segment has grown in emerging markets, including India and Latin America. Apple has the largest market share, while Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi are gaining ground. The number of premium smartphone models in the market continues to increase, according to Counterpoint Research.
India’s smartphone exports in January rose 140 percent to 3 billion dollars. Total exports from April to January reached Rs 1.55 lakh crore, up 56 percent.
Apple’s supply chain made up 70 percent, with Foxconn at 50 percent. Tata Electronics and Pegatron contributed 22 percent and 12 percent. Samsung accounted for 20 percent, IANS report said.
The growth is due to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, which attracted foreign companies, leading to Rs 10,213 crore in investments and 1.37 lakh jobs. Mobile phone production grew from 60 million in 2014-15 to 330 million in 2023-24. India now exports more phones than it imports.
