Telecom Lead Asia: Spice Mobiles will incorporate DTS Sound in their smartphones from May 2013.
DTS Sound delivers an immersive surround sound experience and improved sound quality with premium clarity and better bass.
With a customer base of over 15 million and an annual volume of over 6 million devices, S Mobility has market share of nearly 4-5 percent of the Indian mobile devices market.
Rangachari S Desikan, CEO, S Mobility, said: “Our partnership with DTS has enabled us to layer in superior audio enhancements, which meets our customers’ desire for the best audio experience on their smartphones.”
DTS Sound maximizes the acoustic power of Spice Mobiles’ new smartphones, providing crystal-clear, high-definition audio for watching videos, listening to music, gaming or streaming content.
DTS is tapping Indian market since it is experiencing tremendous growth in smartphone adoption.
Recently, DTS said its revenue for the third quarter was $22.2 million, including 41 percent year-over-year growth from the network-connected markets. This compares to revenue of $20.5 million in the third quarter of 2011. The 8 percent year-over-year growth in total revenue resulted from continued growth in the network-connected markets, particularly in connected TVs and mobile, as well as the automotive market. Blu-ray revenue was essentially flat year-over-year and up 17 percent sequentially. These results were partially offset by declining demand for DVD, stand-alone DMP and broadcast products.
Brian Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer at DTS, said: “By natively equipping their products with the newest DTS audio technology, Spice Mobiles’ devices have an edge over their competition by ensuring customer satisfaction through exceptional multimedia audio performance.”
Recently, DTS and Qualcomm Technologies announced their further collaboration with the integration of DTS Headphone:X onto Qualcomm Technologies’ latest Snapdragon processors, starting with the Snapdragon 800 series. Launching in 2013, DTS Headphone:X will enable Snapdragon powered smartphones and tablets to deliver up-to 7.1 surround sound over headphones.
