Samsung Electronics and Google Cloud announced a multi-year partnership that will revolutionize the mobile experience for Samsung smartphone users.
Unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California, the partnership introduces Google Cloud’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
“Galaxy S24 series is the first smartphone equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI,” Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said in Samsung website.
The collaboration positions Samsung as the pioneering Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro on Vertex AI to consumers. Gemini Pro, a multimodal AI system, is designed to understand and seamlessly operate across various types of information, including text, code, images, and video.
Samsung-native applications, such as Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard, will feature the summarization feature powered by Gemini Pro on Vertex AI. This deployment ensures essential Google Cloud features such as security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.
Users of the Galaxy S24 series can immediately benefit from Imagen 2, Google’s advanced text-to-image diffusion technology. Integrated into the S24’s Gallery application, Imagen 2 on Vertex AI offers safe and intuitive photo-editing capabilities.
Samsung is among the first to test Gemini Ultra, Google’s most capable and largest model for highly-complex tasks. Additionally, the Galaxy S24 series will utilize Gemini Nano, an on-device Large Language Model (LLM) delivered as part of the Android 14 operating system, enhancing efficiency for on-device tasks.
“With Gemini, Samsung’s developers can leverage Google Cloud’s world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance, and flexibility to deliver engaging generative AI-powered applications on Samsung smartphone devices,” Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said.
