Samsung and Corning Introduce Corning Gorilla Armor for Galaxy S24 Ultra, Elevating Durability and Display Clarity

Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with Corning, unveiled an enhancement for the Galaxy S24 Ultra devices – the incorporation of Corning’s latest innovation, Corning Gorilla Armor cover material.

“Corning’s Corning Glass, together with the Galaxy S series, have driven innovation and made significant progress towards achieving greater durability. This partnership has made it possible for people to use our products with confidence and peace of mind,” Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said.

In contrast to conventional glass surfaces, Gorilla Armor significantly reduces reflection by up to 75 percent, contributing to enhanced display readability and reduced screen reflections across various environments.

Corning’s new cover material has been meticulously engineered to optimize durability on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. In rigorous lab tests, Gorilla Armor demonstrated superior durability when compared to competitive aluminosilicate cover glasses.

A specialized lab test, the “Scratch Bot,” was introduced to simulate micro-scratches from day-to-day wear. Gorilla Armor exhibited no visible scratches, showcasing over four times more scratch resistance than its aluminosilicate counterparts.

Additionally, Gorilla Armor boasts an average of 25 percent pre-consumer recycled content, validated by UL Solutions in accordance with UL2809-2 Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content.

“This latest innovation simultaneously addresses both the need for durability and our increasing need for better optics – bringing the mobile phone experience of the future into the present,” David Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass, said.

The introduction of the Galaxy S24 Ultra phones featuring Gorilla Armor marks the continuation of a longstanding partnership between Samsung and Corning. Celebrating 50 years of collaboration last year, the companies first joined forces in 1973 to make televisions more accessible to consumers in Korea.

Corning Gorilla Glass has since adorned numerous Samsung devices, from early Galaxy smartphones to recent models, including the Galaxy S23 Series, Galaxy Z Fold5, and Galaxy Z Flip5, all utilizing Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
