Laptop-to-Mobile Technology Transfer: Qualcomm is bringing technology first developed for its laptop chips, branded “Oryon,” to its mobile phone chips for the first time.

AI-Driven Capabilities: The Snapdragon 8 Elite supports multi-modal generative AI applications directly on smartphones, transforming user experiences with AI-powered features in cameras, gaming, and web browsing.

Developer Tools: Qualcomm will offer special tools for software developers to tap into the AI capabilities of the chip, beyond those already available in Android’s system.

AI Strategy: Qualcomm’s senior vice president Chris Patrick emphasized that the company is complementing Google’s fast AI advancements with its own unique technology for mobile handsets.

Technologies: The platform features industry-leading innovations like the second-generation custom-built Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and enhanced Hexagon NPU, offering major performance enhancements.

Widespread Adoption: Leading smartphone brands including ASUS, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, RealMe, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi will soon launch devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The latest CounterPoint report points that one of four consumers buying a smart phone in 2024 will spend more than $600, this is the segment where new technologies like Gen AI will make a difference, CounterPoint Research Director Tarun Pathak said.
