The Peru smartphone market remained intensely competitive in Q1 2026 as Chinese smartphone brands strengthened their influence across affordable and mid-range segments while Samsung Electronics defended its premium and mass-market leadership ambitions. Rising demand for affordable 5G smartphones, AI-enabled mobile experiences, gaming-focused devices, and installment-based financing programs continued reshaping purchasing behavior among Peruvian consumers.

Smartphone market share in Peru Q1 2026

According to the Omdia report, the broader Latin American smartphone market grew 3 percent year-on-year to 34.8 million units in Q1 2026 despite increasing DRAM and NAND memory costs that added pricing pressure across the global smartphone industry.

Peru emerged as one of the region’s most important battlegrounds for affordable smartphones as vendors increasingly focused on financing-led affordability, profitability, retail expansion, and AI-powered mobile experiences amid cautious consumer spending trends.

Xiaomi retains smartphone leadership in Peru

Xiaomi maintained leadership in Peru’s smartphone market with 28 percent market share, driven by growing demand for Redmi and Poco smartphones positioned aggressively across affordable and gaming-oriented categories.

Xiaomi continued benefiting from strong brand visibility among younger consumers seeking feature-rich smartphones with high-refresh-rate displays, AI-enhanced photography, gaming optimization, fast charging, and long battery life at competitive prices. The company also strengthened its online retail presence and installment-focused affordability strategies.

Samsung Electronics secured second place with a 25 percent market share, supported by broad Galaxy smartphone availability spanning premium, mid-range, and affordable 5G categories. Samsung continued leveraging Galaxy AI marketing, extensive retail distribution, telecom operator partnerships, and ecosystem integration involving smartphones, tablets, wearables, and connected devices.

Motorola captured a 12 percent market share while strengthening momentum through competitive Moto G-series smartphones, clean Android software experiences, balanced mid-range performance, and strong telecom operator distribution.

HONOR accounted for an 11 percent market share despite softer quarterly momentum. HONOR continued investing in AI-enabled smartphones, premium mid-range positioning, stylish device designs, and expanded retail partnerships across Peru.

ZTE rounded out the top five with a 9 percent market share while maintaining stable demand through aggressively priced smartphones targeting prepaid consumers and highly price-sensitive buyers.

Xiaomi and Samsung together controlled 53 percent of Peru’s smartphone market, highlighting increasing concentration at the top of the industry. Competition below the leading pair remained extremely tight, with only a three percentage point difference separating Motorola in third place from ZTE in fifth position.

Affordable 5G smartphones and AI features intensify competition

Smartphone vendors in Peru increasingly focused on AI-powered experiences, gaming performance, financing-led affordability, and telecom operator partnerships as consumers upgraded devices amid rising mobile internet penetration and expanding digital service adoption.

Xiaomi expanded its strategy through aggressively priced Redmi Note and Poco smartphones featuring gaming optimization, OLED displays, AI-enhanced cameras, fast charging technologies, and larger battery capacities.

Samsung Electronics accelerated promotion of Galaxy AI capabilities, foldable smartphone visibility, broader 5G portfolio expansion, and premium ecosystem integration while leveraging deep relationships with telecom operators and retailers.

Motorola focused on durable smartphone designs, near-stock Android software experiences, battery optimization, and value-focused pricing strategies targeting mass-market consumers.

HONOR continued positioning itself in the premium mid-range smartphone category through AI-enhanced software experiences, modern hardware designs, and financing-led affordability campaigns.

ZTE strengthened its focus on entry-level smartphones optimized for prepaid subscribers, social media usage, video streaming, and extended battery endurance.

Mid-range smartphones dominate Peru’s mobile market

Peru’s smartphone market in 2026 witnessed strongest demand in the PEN 700 to PEN 2,000 pricing category as consumers prioritized affordability, gaming capabilities, camera quality, and battery life.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G smartphones were retailing between PEN 800 and PEN 1,100 depending on configuration and promotional activity, while Galaxy A55 5G models ranged between PEN 1,600 and PEN 2,300.

Xiaomi Redmi Note smartphones competed aggressively in the PEN 700 to PEN 1,700 category, while Poco gaming-oriented smartphones increasingly targeted consumers in the PEN 1,200 to PEN 2,000 segment.

Motorola Moto G-series smartphones remained highly competitive between PEN 900 and PEN 1,900, especially among users seeking balanced performance and clean Android software experiences.

HONOR mid-range smartphones increasingly competed in the PEN 1,000 to PEN 2,200 category through operator bundle promotions and installment financing strategies.

ZTE strengthened its position in the sub-PEN 1,000 segment through affordable smartphones optimized for social media applications and long battery life.

Consumers increasingly favored smartphones featuring AI-powered photography, gaming stability, OLED displays, fast charging, and improved thermal management rather than purely hardware specification-based upgrades.

Gaming, TikTok and digital banking drive smartphone upgrades

Peruvian smartphone buyers increasingly prioritized installment affordability, gaming performance, battery endurance, AI-enabled photography, and mobile entertainment capabilities during purchasing decisions in Q1 2026.

Growing usage of TikTok, WhatsApp, video streaming, mobile gaming, e-commerce platforms, and digital banking services continued driving smartphone replacement cycles across urban and regional markets.

Installment financing programs, prepaid operator bundles, cashback campaigns, and online retail promotions became increasingly important as consumers remained cautious about discretionary spending.

Consumers also showed stronger interest in smartphones optimized for gaming stability, efficient mobile data usage, stronger thermal management, and enhanced camera performance for content creation.

Affordable prepaid mobile data plans continued playing a critical role in expanding smartphone adoption among younger and lower-income consumers.

Telecom operators support 5G smartphone growth

Peru’s expanding mobile internet ecosystem and accelerating 5G deployment continued supporting smartphone upgrades throughout 2026.

Claro Peru, Movistar Peru, and Entel Peru continued expanding 4G and 5G infrastructure while strengthening digital services ecosystems.

Telecom operators increasingly competed through unlimited data plans, gaming-oriented mobile packages, social-media-focused offers, streaming bundles, and digital financial services as mobile data consumption accelerated.

Peru’s expanding digital economy, rising fintech adoption, and growing e-commerce penetration also continued boosting demand for affordable 5G smartphones and AI-ready mid-range devices.

Consumers raise concerns about heating, software updates and pricing

Consumer discussions across e-commerce platforms, smartphone forums, Reddit communities, and online reviews increasingly highlighted concerns related to battery heating during gaming, delayed software updates, software optimization challenges, and rising smartphone prices.

Some Xiaomi and Poco users discussed software advertisements and occasional lag during prolonged gaming sessions, while Samsung Galaxy users occasionally highlighted battery drain issues following major software updates.

Motorola users generally reported positive feedback regarding software simplicity and battery optimization, though some consumers discussed slower update rollout schedules compared with Samsung and Apple.

HONOR users occasionally raised concerns about long-term software ecosystem maturity, while ZTE users mainly discussed performance limitations in lower-priced smartphones.

Consumers also increasingly expressed concerns regarding rising prepaid mobile data prices, shorter promotional validity periods, and inconsistent network quality in some regional areas.

Peru smartphone market outlook for 2026

Peru is expected to remain one of Latin America’s fastest-growing smartphone markets because of rising mobile internet penetration, expanding 5G coverage, growing gaming demand, and accelerating adoption of digital services.

Smartphone vendors are increasingly expected to compete through AI-powered features, financing-led affordability, gaming optimization, ecosystem integration, and stronger telecom operator partnerships instead of purely hardware-focused differentiation.

Xiaomi is likely to maintain strong momentum through aggressive value-focused positioning, while Samsung Electronics, Motorola, HONOR, and ZTE are expected to intensify competition across affordable AI-ready 5G smartphones and gaming-focused mid-range devices throughout 2026.
