The initiative aims to engage the Nothing Community by inviting them to take part in the co-creation of a new product, offering an exciting opportunity for fans and creative minds to contribute directly to the design and development of a limited-edition Nothing device.

For the 2025 challenge, Nothing is introducing four creative briefs, giving participants extended time to refine their ideas and collaborate with other community members. This year’s competition comes with an added incentive, as winners of each category will be awarded a £1,000 cash prize in recognition of their talent and effort. This reward structure is expected to encourage more participation from designers, developers, and marketers eager to showcase their creativity.

The Community Edition Project was first introduced in March 2024 as Nothing’s inaugural co-creation initiative. It resulted in the release of 1,000 units of a limited-edition glow-in-the-dark version of the popular Phone (2a) Plus. The product was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, selling out in just 15 minutes during its online release. Its innovative design also earned Nothing a prestigious Gold iF Design Award, further cementing the brand’s reputation for pushing the boundaries of product aesthetics and user experience.

Nothing is opening submissions for the 2025 Community Edition Project from March 26 to April 23. Participants are invited to submit their concepts for designing the ultimate version of the upcoming Phone (3a). The challenge encompasses various aspects of product design, including hardware, software, accessories, and marketing. The winners in each category will not only receive the cash prize but will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with Nothing’s in-house team to bring their ideas to life.

The four creative challenges for the Community Edition Project 2025 are structured to allow for a holistic approach to product innovation. The hardware design category focuses on reimagining the physical look and feel of the Phone (3a), encouraging unique interpretations that align with Nothing’s design ethos. The accessory design segment challenges participants to create an exclusive collectible or accessory to be included with the Community Edition release.

The software design component invites developers and designers to craft UI elements that enhance the on-screen experience, such as custom wallpapers, widgets, or icon packs. Lastly, the marketing campaign brief calls for creative proposals that shape promotional materials, including key visuals, launch events, or other marketing strategies that effectively communicate the product’s uniqueness.

For those interested in learning more about the 2025 Community Edition Project, full details can be found on the Nothing YouTube channel.
