Nokia leads smart phone segment with 38.4% market share in India

Total mobile handset shipments during the
first eleven months of year 2011 touched nearly 166 million units. The overall
India mobile handsets market recorded sales of 15.4 million units in November
2011.


In
the overall India mobile handsets market, Nokia has 28 percent share, followed
by Samsung at second position with 12 percent and Micromax at third position
with 4 percent, in terms of sales (unit shipments) during November 2011.


Multi-SIM
mobile handset shipments accounted for 54 percent of the total India mobile
handsets market during November 2011 in the country.


Nokia,
a late entrant to the multi-SIM device category, has 19 percent market share,
followed by Micromax with 7.1 percent and Karbonn with 6.9 percent market
share.


Smartphone shipments touched 10 million units in first
eleven months of calendar year 2011. November 2011 was only the third
consecutive month when smartphone shipments in India crossed 1 million units.
Moreover, the month witnessed the launch of as many as 23 smartphone models.

Total
3G phone shipments touched 15.5 million in the first eleven months of CY 2011,
with close to 224 models launched by 26 vendors. In November 2011, 3G phone
shipments contributed 8.9 percent of the total mobile device shipments in the
country.
