MoMagic to offer MediaTek MRE app store to make feature phones smarter

TelecomLead India:
MoMagic Technologies, which focuses on mobile platform operation and mobile
Internet service for India and other emerging markets, announced
partnership with semiconductor solutions provider MediaTek to create
an application development platform called Maui Runtime Environment (MRE).

The new platform will enable feature phone users to enjoy
the features available in smartphones.

MediaTek MRE provides application developers with high
speed tools and rich API set to help them realize smart phone solutions for
feature phones and provide phone users a users a rich experience.  It
gives application developers an efficient way to distribute and monetize their
application.

MoMagic Technologies is always focused to work on middle
and low end of the phone user. The App Store has been developed keeping in mind
the feature phone users,” said Arun Gupta, CEO, MoMagic
Technologies.

The App Store is very easy to use and navigate around.
Store allows users to view newest MRE Applications, most downloaded ones,
highest rated ones and also the ones downloaded for future reference,” Gupta
added.

In its initial launch the App Store will feature a large
number of MRE Applications in all areas like Utility, SNS, Games, Entertainment
and others. Solutions provided are of a wide variety for the huge feature phone
customer base.

With platforms like MRE, soon the difference between
smartphones and feature phones will disappear, according to MoMagic. With this
app store, users can view the Application details like description, user
rating, download, etc. A number of Applications and games can be downloaded
with the ease of the download manager and one can pause/resume downloads as
preferred.

It seems in a very short span of time the difference between
smart and feature phones would fade away and it’s all because of platforms like
MRE and solutions like MoMagic’s App Store.

Worldwide feature phones market share is worth 70
percent approximately. In Asia and Africa it is still close to 80 percent. The
new app store gives the company an opportunity to leverage this market.

Recently MediaTek announced announced
the launch of “Mobile Theater,” a video and audio compression
software solution designed exclusively for mobile phones.  With “Mobile Theater” support, digital or audio files can be easily stored
up to 50 film clips on a 2GB T-card.
