LG G Flex curved smartphone takes innovation to next level

LG G Flex curved smartphone – announced in Korea — takes mobile device innovation to the next level. Its new design understands human curves, LG said on Monday.

Powered by 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM 8974) processor, the new curved smartphone features Adreno 330, 450MHz GPU.

The latest 6-inch HD smartphone, which is now available with Korean telecom operators, has 2GB LP DDR3 RAM / 32GB eMMc memory. It comes with 13.0MP rear camera and 2.1MP front camera, LG said in a statement.

The curved-screen smartphone will assist LG Electronics to take on rival Samsung. The mobile industry expects that there will be more fully flexible products in the pipeline.

AFP reports that G-Flex does not bend, but uses flexible OLED to produce a curved six-inch display.

Earlier this month, Samsung started retailing the Galaxy Round’ – a 5.7-inch handset with a display that curves from side-to-side to fit the contours of the palm.

LG did not provide a price estimate.

LG G Flex, according to the Korean consumer electronics major, comes with 3,500mAh embedded battery, while a new user interface is the other value addition that can attract mobile phone users across the world. LG will announce the launch date for other markets shortly.

LG says there are multiple benefits to mobile users. First, the vertically curved design of the LG G Flex reduces the distance between one’s mouth to the microphone when the device is held against the ear, as traditional telephone handsets used to.

Second, LG G Flex employs a curvature arc that is optimized for the average face, to deliver improved voice and sound quality. The curved form increases the sound level by 3dB compared to typical flat smartphones.

Third, the curved design also offers a more reassuring grip and fits more comfortably in one’s back pocket. What’s more, in landscape mode, the display offers an IMAX-like experience, with the result being the most comfortable viewing angle for watching videos or playing games.
