Intex to launch smartphone with MediaTek Octa-core chipset on Wednesday

Intex Technologies will introduce its new smartphone with MediaTek Octa-core chipset – on Wednesday.

The IT vendor does not share pricing details.

The press meet in Delhi on Wednesday (November 20) will be attended by Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, business head –  Mobile, Intex Technologies and MediaTek GM – international sales and marketing Finbarr Moynihan.

The specifications of the latest smartphone with MediaTek Octa-core chipset include 1.7 Ghz Octa-Core processer, 7mm thickness, 2.6mm frame width, 6-inch HD IPS LCD screen, 2GB RAM, 16GB, 32 GB internal memory, dual Yamaha 1420 speakers.

The company will be announcing its marketing strategies and pricing at the press meet.

Octa-core activates all eight cores simultaneously enabling a device to perform exceptional multi-tasking for providing better user experience.

Intex claims that it will be the first smartphone vendor in India to unveil true Octa-core experience to Indian mobile phone users.

MediaTek Octa-core chipset

Meanwhile, CyberMedia Research said smartphone shipments in India rose 10.9 percent to 11.1 million units during July-September 2013.

Korean device vendor Samsung is the market leader in smartphones category with Micromax and Karbonn at #2 and #3, respectively. Top 3 vendors make up nearly 63.1 percent of the total smartphone shipments.

Tarun Pathak, analyst, CMR Telecoms Practice, said some of the China-based ODM partners may enter directly into the India market during 1H 2014.

Local handset brands have now close to 47 percent market share in the India smartphones market. 3G smartphone shipments will continue to rise and a few smartphone vendors may introduce 4G-enabled devices by the end of 2013.
