China smartphone shipments dip 17% to 74.9 mn in Q2: Canalys

Today’s Canalys report said smartphone shipments in China fell 17 percent to 74.9 million units in Q2 2021.

The number of smartphone vendors to ship more than 10 million units decreased from five to three in China.

Vivo shipped 18.2 million smartphones during the second quarter to take the top position.

Oppo is in #2 rank after shipping 16 million units of smartphones.

Xiaomi replaced Huawei to become third, and shipped 12.6 million units, with market share increasing from 15 percent to 17 percent against the previous quarter.
Q2 2021 leaders of Smartphone market in ChinaApple ranked fourth, reaching 7.8 million units.

Honor moved into the top five with 6.9 million units, a 40 percent quarter-on-quarter growth after its independence from Huawei. Huawei, itself, fell out of the top five in China for the first time in over seven years.

Canalys Research Analyst Amber Liu said: “The wave of 5G smartphone upgrades will start to wane in the near future, as a large proportion of consumers have shifted to the latest network generation. To buck this trend, the market needs vendors to bring breakthrough new features.”
