The update introduces a stunning Liquid Glass design, intuitive AI-driven fitness coaching, smarter daily assistance via the Smart Stack, and powerful new accessibility and communication tools. With watchOS 26, Apple Watch becomes even more personal, insightful, and capable — all while retaining the simplicity users love.

Smarter Fitness Motivation with Workout Buddy

The centerpiece of watchOS 26 is Workout Buddy, a revolutionary AI-powered fitness coach that uses Apple Intelligence to deliver real-time, spoken encouragement and insights tailored to each user’s data — including heart rate, pace, history, and goals.

Whether it’s celebrating milestones mid-run or giving personalized stats post-workout, Workout Buddy delivers human-like feedback using a generative voice inspired by Fitness+ trainers — bringing energy, relevance, and support into every session. This feature not only motivates users but also helps them stay consistent and push their limits safely.

Redesigned Workout App with Built-in Music Recommendations

The Workout app gets its biggest redesign yet — simplifying navigation with customizable corner buttons and offering seamless access to music and podcasts that fit your workout and taste. Apple Music intelligently recommends playlists based on previous listening patterns and workout types, eliminating friction and boosting motivation.

A More Expressive and Intuitive Design

Apple watchOS 26 introduces a bold Liquid Glass interface, which reacts dynamically to content and interaction. This real-time rendering makes features like the Smart Stack, Control Center, and Photos watch face feel more immersive, fluid, and personal.

Smart Stack Hints for Proactive Support

With better prediction models and contextual awareness, the Smart Stack now delivers gentle hints when you need them most — like surfacing a Pilates widget when you arrive at your studio, or offering Backtrack in a remote area. It’s timely, relevant, and powered by machine learning running right on your device for privacy-first intelligence.

Effortless Communication with Live Translation and Smarter Messaging

Users can now enjoy Live Translation in Messages — a seamless way to converse across languages, right from the wrist. Smart Replies and Check In suggestions are now even more precise, using advanced on-device language models for context-aware responses. Users can also respond to polls, view custom chat backgrounds, and send payments — all from their Apple Watch.

One-Handed Convenience and Enhanced Accessibility

Apple introduces a wrist flick gesture — letting users quickly dismiss notifications, silence timers, or decline calls with a natural movement. Combined with the double tap gesture, it makes Apple Watch more usable when one hand is occupied.

For users with hearing needs, Live Captions and Listen controls now come to Apple Watch, offering real-time transcriptions of ambient sound and letting users control sessions from their wrist — improving accessibility across environments.

New Features That Fit Seamlessly Into Everyday Life

The Notes app debuts on Apple Watch, with Siri and dictation support for quick note creation and checklist updates.

Hold Assist alerts users when a live agent is on the line, while Call Screening transcribes caller intent before you pick up.

The Photos face now shuffles through your favorite memories using smart curation.

Ambient sound detection adjusts notification volume based on your environment.

Developers can create custom controls and widgets, further expanding what users can do from the wrist.

Availability

watchOS 26 is available to developers today and will launch publicly this fall as a free software update for Apple Watch Series 6 and later, paired with iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26. Apple Intelligence features require compatible iPhones and supported languages.
