Gilat Satellite Networks has won a $17 million contract from Pronatel for the expansion of a regional telecommunications project in Peru.
Pronatel (Programa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones) is extending its collaboration with Gilat, building upon the original agreement forged in 2018.
In partnership with the Amazonas regional government, Pronatel is broadening the scope of the project to encompass connectivity to 35 new localities and multiple public institutions, including schools and health posts, within the Amazonas region of Peru.
As part of the expansion, Gilat will implement several free Wi-Fi hotspots and establish a community tele-center equipped with computers, printers, and internet services, with a commitment to support these services for a period of 10 years.
Sarita Vílchez Castellanos, Executive Director of the Pronatel National Telecommunications Program, emphasized the positive impact of this expansion on the region, stating, “Through this expansion to the Broadband Project for the Amazonas region, 37 additional schools and 6 additional health posts will now have internet access to promote telehealth, tele-education, and the utilization of technological tools among the citizens.”
Arieh Rohrstock, General Manager of Gilat Peru and Gilat’s Corporate Senior Vice President, expressed optimism about the project’s future, stating, “Now that the necessary infrastructure for the Amazonas region is nearly completed, this expansion with Pronatel will serve the people of the region well as we move into the operational phase of the project in earnest.”
