Ericsson Takes Legal Action Against Transsion Over Patent Dispute
Ericsson has initiated legal proceedings against Transsion, one of the world’s largest smartphone makers, over alleged infringement of its standard-essential patents (SEPs) related to 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies. The dispute centers on Transsion’s refusal to agree to FRAND-compliant licensing terms, which Ericsson argues is necessary to ensure fair compensation for its long-term R&D investments. Ericsson says legal action is a last resort but essential to protect its intellectual property and maintain a level playing field in the global mobile ecosystem. The case highlights growing tensions between telecom innovators and device manufacturers over patent licensing. A resolution would benefit customers by ensuring continued access to high-quality, standards-based mobile technology while incentivizing ongoing innovation across the industry.
