Battle for Italy’s Towers: Swisscom Faces Long Legal Fight

Swisscom has said its dispute with Italian telecom tower company INWIT could take up to five years to resolve, underscoring rising competition in Italy’s telecom infrastructure sector. The conflict began after Fastweb, Swisscom’s Italian business, sought to exit a long-term tower-sharing deal with INWIT and instead partner with Telecom Italia (TIM). INWIT insists the agreement remains valid until 2038 and has initiated legal proceedings to prevent the move. Meanwhile, Swisscom is pressing ahead with the integration of Vodafone Italia, reporting €77 million in first-quarter savings from the merger. The combined Fastweb-Vodafone entity also plans to work with TIM to build as many as 6,000 new mobile tower sites across Italy.

From Data Packs to Digital Classrooms: Vi and PhysicsWallah Launch Student-Focused Edu Plans

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with PhysicsWallah to launch “Vi Edu+,” a new prepaid offering that blends mobile connectivity with digital education services for students across India. The plans, initially introduced in Rajasthan and UP East, provide unlimited 4G/5G data along with access to PW Pi Pro, featuring recorded lectures, AI-based doubt solving, practice tests, and preparation material for competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, and UPSC. Starting at ₹375 and ₹409 for 28 days, the bundles also include courses on emerging skills like Gen AI and finance. The partnership reflects a growing trend of telecom companies expanding into value-added digital education services for young consumers.

ZTE and MediaTek Bet Big on Brazil’s Premium Wi-Fi 7 Boom

ZTE and MediaTek have partnered to introduce premium tri-band Wi-Fi 7 and XGSPON connectivity solutions in Brazil, targeting high-end households and small businesses demanding faster, low-latency internet services. Announced during the 2026 ZTE Broadband User Congress in São Paulo, the initiative combines advanced Wi-Fi 7 technology across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands to improve network performance in crowded, multi-device environments. The companies believe Brazil’s broadband market still lacks well-defined premium service offerings, giving operators an opportunity to increase revenue through differentiated connectivity packages. ZTE also showcased its 4×4 XGSPON equipment with Multi-Link Operation technology, capable of delivering speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps for next-generation broadband experiences.
