Cloud Voice Revolution: Ribbon and Amazon Web Services Unite to Accelerate Telecom Transformation
Ribbon Communications has entered a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services to deliver a cloud-native, secure voice communications platform tailored for service providers and enterprises. The solution integrates Ribbon’s session border controllers, SIP routing, and centralized management tools, fully containerized for AWS infrastructure. Available through AWS Marketplace, the offering enables faster cloud migration, improved scalability, and reduced operational costs through automation and Kubernetes-based deployment. By modernizing voice workloads with built-in security and resilience, the partnership aims to accelerate digital transformation and simplify large-scale cloud communications for global telecom operators and enterprises.
Mountain Breakthrough: STL and Mynet Power High-Speed Data Centre in Trentino
Sterlite Technologies (STL) has partnered with Italian telecom operator Mynet to power the new Intacture data centre in Trentino’s mountainous region with advanced optical fibre connectivity. The project, led by the University of Trento, is backed by €50.2 million in funding, including €18.4 million from Italy’s national recovery plan. STL deployed high-fibre-count, compact optical cables designed for challenging terrain, enabling faster and more cost-efficient installation. The full connectivity infrastructure was completed in under two months around 50 percent quicker than conventional timelines while ensuring more than 15 years of reliable, high-capacity performance to support growing data demands.
5G Gold Rush: Telecom Italia Targets Premium Event Connectivity Revenue
Telecom Italia is exploring premium pricing models for guaranteed high-performance mobile connectivity during major events, as it seeks new revenue streams in Italy’s competitive telecom market. CEO Pietro Labriola said the operator is evaluating options to charge customers for enhanced network performance in crowded venues where demand for fast, reliable data surges. The idea follows network upgrades implemented for the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, where reinforced 5G infrastructure supported heavy real-time content sharing. While such enhanced services are currently offered at no extra cost, the company is assessing future commercial models to monetize premium connectivity experiences at large-scale events.
