JSW Group Considers ₹60,000 Crore Investment in Vodafone Idea Revival
JSW Group is reportedly considering an investment of ₹45,000 crore to ₹60,000 crore in Vodafone Idea as the Indian government seeks strong investors to support the telecom operator. The discussions are described as being at an early stage, with the potential funding aimed at supporting Vodafone Idea’s revival and strengthening its competitive position. The proposed investment would represent a major financial commitment to the operator and could provide resources for network expansion, operational improvements and broader business strengthening if discussions progress. However, no final investment decision has been announced. The potential move highlights continued investor interest in Vodafone Idea and the scale of capital that could be required to strengthen the company’s position in India’s competitive telecom market.
India Clears Key Satcom Spectrum Hurdle, Bringing Commercial Launches Closer
India’s Digital Communications Commission has approved a 5 percent spectrum usage charge based on adjusted gross revenue for satellite communication services, removing a major regulatory hurdle for commercial satcom launches. Operators serving rural and remote areas will qualify for a lower 4 percent charge. The spectrum will be assigned administratively for five years, with an option for a two-year extension. The decision enables the government to move forward with spectrum assignment for companies including Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications. The Department of Telecommunications must still take the proposal through the Inter-Ministerial Committee and Cabinet approval process, while operators must meet security requirements. Amazon Leo is still awaiting its GMPCS licence.
Harmonic Brings AI-Driven Automation to Broadband Networks with cOS SensAI Harmonic has introduced cOS SensAI, a vendor-agnostic intelligence platform designed to unify operational information from multiple systems across broadband networks. The software creates a real-time model of network devices and relationships, correlating data from thousands of sources to diagnose service problems and progressively automate repetitive workflows. Broadband operators Hotwire Communications and GCI are already testing the platform in live environments. Harmonic says SensAI can help operators reduce troubleshooting time, repeat tickets and costly truck rolls while improving network reliability. Analysys Mason estimates the addressable market among Tier-2 and smaller broadband providers at approximately $2.2 billion annually. Harmonic’s existing broadband footprint includes thousands of vCMTS servers and hundreds of thousands of Remote PHY Devices deployed globally.
