5G Power Play: EU Flags Investor Risks in Vietnam’s China-Linked Network

European Union has warned that Vietnam’s growing reliance on Chinese firms like Huawei and ZTE for its 5G network could discourage foreign investment. EU official Jozef Sikela stressed that 5G is a strategic sector where data security is critical, cautioning against dependence on “non-trusted vendors.” While European companies Ericsson and Nokia are still involved in building Vietnam’s core network, recent contracts awarded to Chinese suppliers mark a notable shift. Vietnam, a key manufacturing hub dependent on foreign investment, risks undermining investor confidence if data security concerns arise.
