India Surges Ahead in Global Smartphone Exports with 55 percent Growth
India’s smartphone exports increased by 55 percent in the first five months of FY 2025–26, exceeding ₹1 lakh crore. The country manufactures over 330 million smartphones annually, with around 1 billion devices in use. In Q2 2025, India became the top smartphone exporter to the United States, surpassing China. The growth is linked to the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which attracted manufacturers like Apple and Samsung. These companies established production facilities in India, contributing to the export rise. Expansion of smartphone manufacturing created over 1.2 million jobs in the sector. India’s mobile manufacturing sector has moved from assembling finished goods to producing sub-assemblies and advancing into component manufacturing, IANS reports.
BSNL and India Post Join Forces to Bring Mobile Services to 1.65 Lakh Locations
The Department of Posts and Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) signed a one-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide BSNL SIM cards and mobile recharge services through over 1.65 lakh post offices across India. BSNL will supply SIM cards and provide training to postal staff, while the Department of Posts will handle customer onboarding and secure transactions. A pilot project in Assam tested the model and confirmed its feasibility, leading to plans for nationwide rollout. This initiative leverages India Post’s network to increase BSNL’s presence in rural and urban areas. By integrating postal infrastructure with telecom services, the partnership enables wider access to mobile connectivity, IANS reports.
