India Opens 6GHz Spectrum to Boost Next-Gen Wi-Fi and Telecom Innovation

India is opening part of the 6GHz spectrum for licence-free Wi-Fi use. This supports next-generation Wi-Fi technologies like Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, allowing faster wireless communication. Companies including Meta, Sony, Apple, and Google have requested higher transmission power limits to improve Wi-Fi speed and coverage. The government is reviewing these requests carefully due to possible interference with existing satellite and broadcasting services. The final decision on power limits is still pending to ensure balance between new technology deployment and protection of current infrastructure. This move aims to foster innovation in the telecom sector by enabling better wireless connectivity through updated spectrum use, Livemint reports.

Huawei and Partners Advance Mobile AI and 5G-Advanced Networks to Transform Telecom

At the Mobile AI Summit during MWC Shanghai 2025, Huawei and partners agreed on improving the 5G-A uplink experience and integrating network-service synergy for experience monetization. The GSMA Foundry project for Mobile Network for Thriving AI was launched. Huawei’s GigaBand solution supports 5G-A network evolution by enabling multi-band 4G/5G sharing and improved throughput, demonstrated in Hong Kong with a 2.28-fold increase in 5G speeds while maintaining 4G stability. The AI Core Network will roll out in two phases: the 5G-A Intelligent Core with AI agents and computing-network convergence, and the Agentic Core featuring self-optimization and self-operation. Huawei’s AI-centric 5.5G solutions — GigaGear, GreenPulse, and GainLeap — drive resource collaboration, automation, and experience optimization. The RAN Intelligent Agent automates network operation and energy management.

China Accelerates 5G Expansion with Over 4.5 Million Base Stations Planned for 2025

China is expanding its 5G infrastructure, aiming to build over 4.5 million 5G base stations in 2025. China Mobile plans to add 340,000 new 5G base stations next year, reaching nearly 2.8 million in total. The country is also preparing trials for 10-gigabit optical networks and investing in computing power infrastructure to support artificial intelligence applications. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is providing policy and financial incentives to encourage industries expected to grow in the next decade, Mobile World Live reports.
