Telecom Meets Finance: India Tightens Grip on Digital Fraud
India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has partnered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to combat rising financial frauds linked to telecom resources. The collaboration establishes a real-time data-sharing framework to detect and prevent investment scams early by integrating telecom intelligence with market surveillance. DoT will share tools like the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator and Mobile Number Revocation List to identify suspicious mobile activity, while SEBI will provide inputs on fraudulent accounts and telecom misuse. Enabled by the Digital Intelligence Platform, this two-way exchange aims to shift enforcement from reactive to proactive, strengthening investor protection amid India’s rapidly growing digital investment ecosystem.
