Comcast Expands Rural Internet Access in Florida

Comcast is extending its high-speed internet network to more than 32,000 homes and businesses across 16 rural Florida counties, including over 11,000 locations in Lehigh Acres. This rollout is part of Comcast’s broader plan to connect 64,000 rural locations in Florida by 2026, helping bridge the digital divide in underserved areas.

The expansion is supported through a public-private partnership with Florida’s Broadband Opportunity Program and Capital Projects Fund, which provide critical funding for infrastructure development. Alongside broadband service, Comcast will offer Xfinity and Comcast Business solutions including internet, mobile, entertainment, and security services.

To ensure affordability, Comcast continues its Internet Essentials program, designed to provide low-cost internet access for eligible households, furthering its mission to make connectivity accessible to all communities.

Ericsson and UTC Strengthen 5G Skills and Transport Innovation in Vietnam

The University of Transport and Communications (UTC) has partnered with Ericsson to accelerate 5G adoption and digital transformation in Vietnam’s transport sector. The collaboration aims to train engineering students in 5G technologies, integrate advanced knowledge into the university’s curriculum, and prepare a skilled workforce to support the nation’s digital future. Ericsson will share its global expertise in 5G implementation, while UTC will embed this into its research and teaching programs, with a focus on developing 5G railway applications.

Nokia Introduces First 1,900 MHz 5G Mission-Critical Rail System

Nokia has launched the world’s first 5G system for railways using the 1,900 MHz band, designed specifically for mission-critical communications. The platform is fully interoperable with GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway) and the upcoming Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), which will become the global standard for railway connectivity. The new system enhances safety and efficiency by supporting real-time train control, passenger information services, integrated voice and data, predictive maintenance, and remote monitoring.
