Colt Hit by Data Breach as Ransomware Group Auctions One Million Files

Colt Technology Services confirmed a data breach that forced it to take some internal systems offline, with Colt Online and Voice API services remaining unavailable. The breach occurred in a system separate from customer infrastructure. The ransomware group WarLock claimed responsibility for the attack and posted file names of stolen documents on the dark web, stating it has one million documents from Colt and has begun auctioning them. Colt detected the intrusion on August 12 and immediately isolated parts of its network to prevent further access. Investigations are ongoing and law enforcement has been notified.

India Sets Up 100 5G Labs to Drive 6G Roadmap

India has established 100 5G labs across academic institutions to support capacity building and prepare the ecosystem for 6G. The initiative is part of the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme, launched in 2022, under which 104 projects related to 6G have been approved with funding of ₹275.88 crore as of July 2025. The government launched the Bharat 6G Alliance involving industry, academia, research bodies, and standards organizations to implement the Bharat 6G Vision, while MoUs have been signed with global 6G alliances to promote collaboration. A Technology Innovation Hub at IIIT Bangalore has been established under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, focusing on Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) and O-RAN Massive MIMO systems to strengthen future networks, IANS reports.

SK Telecom Faces Record Fine Decision After Data Breach

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) will meet next week to decide penalties for SK Telecom after a data breach reported in April. The breach exposed USIM data, affecting about 25 million users. SK Telecom provided free USIM replacements and the investigation concluded last month. Under the Personal Information Protection Act, fines can reach up to 3 percent of relevant sales. Based on SK Telecom’s mobile sales of 12.77 trillion won in 2024, penalties could exceed 300 billion won. The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) also ordered SK Telecom to waive cancellation fees for internet and TV services bundled with mobile plans, following user cancellations linked to the breach, IANS reports.
