Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel is leading the Indian mobile Internet market with 26.38 percent market share during the September 2013 quarter. Vodafone is in a distant second position with 22.59 percent.
Both 2G and 3G presence are driving the mobile Internet market in India.
According to telecom regulator TRAI, the number of mobile Internet subscribers has reached 188.20 million in September 2013.
TRAI said total number of internet subscribers including internet access by mobile device subscribers increased 6.04 percent to 210.38 million in September 13 from 198.39 million in June 2013.
According to TRAI, which publishes the data on quarterly basis, besides 188.20 million mobile Internet users, there were 22.19 million internet subscribers that rose 1.38 percent.
Idea Cellular, the Aditya Birla group promoted telecom operator, has 19.59 percent market share in the Indian mobile Internet market. The growth of cost effective smartphones and availability of chips contributed to the growth of mobile Internet in the country.
Reliance Communications, which recently sold Apple iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s on its network promoting mobile Internet, is lagging behind Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular. Reliance has 15.15 percent market share.
The mobile Internet market share of Aircel, which is promoting Pocket Internet concept across India, has 7.56 percent market share.
