Viber signs mobile app deal with Pakistani telecoms Mobilink

Telecom Lead Asia: Viber has signed a deal with Pakistani cellular operator Mobilink to offer unlimited access to Viber’s mobile app.

The exclusive deal will allow mobile phone users to send unlimited text messages and make unlimited HD quality calls to other Viber users. Mobilink, the #1 telecom operator in Pakistan, has around 36,011,288 mobile users.

“We strive to make Viber available for as many users as we can and this new partnership will help us provide free calls and messaging to another large group of users. We have experienced major growth in Pakistan and it is emerging as a strategic market for us,” said Talmon Marco, CEO of Viber Media.

Viber, a global provider of mobile communications platform offering free messaging and HD-quality phone calls, has more than 175 million users in 193 countries.

The messaging app is available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Symbian, Nokia S40 and Bada devices over 3G/4G or Wi-Fi connections.

“The number of users who trust our data network for their day to day communications continues to grow and our attractive mobile Internet offers make it possible for subscribers to stay connected on the go,” said Farid Ahmad, VP Marketing, Mobilink.

Recently, Mobilink said — as part of Pakistan Day celebrations – it would offer its Facebook bundle for free to entire prepaid customers’ base from 22-25 March, 2013.

With Facebook bundle, Mobilink customers can enjoy unlimited access to Facebook over their mobile phones. Access to other websites and resources on internet are however charged as per regular tariffs.
