Telecom Lead India: Since October 2011, timesPoynt, the
India-specific mobile local search application offered by Poynt and
TimesCity.com (Times Internet) has seen 900 percent growth in mobile search
users over the past six months.
timesPoynt has seen over 300 percent growth in average
daily users since marketing efforts began in late February 2012.
The company said that India has become one the most
important growth markets for location-based services, as the telecom market
crossed 900 million mobile subscribers and smartphone sales saw 87 percent
growth in 2011.
More than ever, India’s smartphone subscribers need LBS
solutions such as timesPoynt that make it easier to create meaningful and
relevant connections to the goods, services or genuine experiences they
require,” said Andrew Osis, CEO, Poynt Corp.
The company said that the growing popularity of
timesPoynt demonstrates how the mobile search app is successfully addressing
the country’s increasing demand for mobile information and engagement.
“India has been one of the fastest-growing mobile
markets in the world for some time, and now we are seeing strong consumer
adoption of mobile services as subscribers spend an average of 2.5 hours on
their phones each day,” said Rohit Dadwal of the MMA.
As one of the market leaders for LBS in India, timesPoynt
brings a valuable perspective to our upcoming webinar, and we look forward to
joining them to discuss the tremendous market opportunities for mobile search
and advertising in India, Dadwal added.
Indian operators are looking at offering LBS to provide information services,
navigation, city sightseeing, public services, location-based charging
services, call routing, assets management, traffic monitoring, mobile yellow
pages and advertisements. These services will help network operators to reap
significant benefits.
