SAP and Sybase to support for app store volume purchase program in Afaria

SAP and Sybase, an SAP company announced interface
support for App Store Volume Purchase Program (VPP) for Business with Afaria, a
mobile device and application management solution from Sybase.

By enabling streamlined and secure application deployment
and management for enterprise users through an enhanced on-device app portal,
Afaria helps extend App Store’s reach into the enterprise market.

Using Afaria, an IT organization can scale the deployment
and management of enterprise mobile apps acquired through App Store VPP.
Companies can assign and deploy mobile applications to specific employees who
are authorized to use the application and access the associated corporate data.
Organizations can also allocate and track licenses used, improving
transparency.

“The App Store, being a key driver in bringing
mobile applications to consumers, can be a powerful channel extending to the
enterprise thousands of business apps designed to increase employee
productivity and transform business processes,” said Stacy Crook, senior
analyst for Mobile Enterprise Research at IDC.

Sybase‘s rich enterprise experience in
over-the-air deployment and on-device portal technology has the potential to
help set the standard of how business applications are delivered to the growing
mobile workforce,” Crook added.

For individual mobile workers, Afaria has made it easier
to acquire applications through the App Store VPP. After the IT organization
imports redemption data on volume purchases into Afaria and assigns
applications to user groups, end-users can launch the Afaria App Portal to
download the application without entering redemption codes or resorting to
reimbursement later.

“By adding support for the App Store Volume Purchase
Program, the Afaria solution will be able to help enterprises quickly
and easily deploy a broad range of business applications within their
organization,” said Raj Nathan, executive vice president, chief marketing
officer and head of Mobile Applications, Sybase.

For more than a decade, Afaria has transformed
enterprises and managed mobility partners around the world by empowering the
mobile workforce. Afaria enables companies to fully manage and secure a wide
range of personal and corporate smartphones and tablets, including
Android, iOS, Windows Mobile and more, in both hosted and behind-the-firewall
environments.

Additionally, Afaria’s seamless over-the-air (OTA)
delivery of in-house and publicly available apps, combined with on-device
enterprise portal technology, helps ensure that only approved mobile users are
granted access to internal applications and data.

Recently, Sybase and China Communications Services
Corporation announced
their joint venture to address opportunities in China market.

The new company, combining the technologies, industry
expertise and vast market access from both parties, will provide telecom
operators, enterprises and government agencies first-class data management and
analytics offerings, mobile device management and applications, mobile commerce
and mobile Internet  value-added services.
