Qualcomm Atheros, the networking and connectivity
subsidiary of Qualcomm and EDIMAX Technology, a provider of networking
solutions, announced the launch of a new carrier-grade video-over-wireless
(VoW) bridge based on the Qualcomm Atheros AR9580 chip at the Broadband World
Forum conference in Paris, France.
The EDIMAX WV-A900APN enables seamless, carrier-grade
multi-HD video streaming throughout the home and is ideal for glitch-free
in-home video services distribution.
Qualcomm Atheros’ three-stream 802.11n solutions are
optimized for high-performance VoW applications. The AR9580 integrates
Qualcomm Atheros’ signal-sustain technology to virtually eliminate packet
loss.
The new EDIMAX WV-A900APN VoW bridge offers a superior
combination of range, performance and energy efficiency at a very competitive
cost point, helping customers to accelerate time-to-market of their video
streaming products by using this highly integrated solution.
“The new EDIMAX VoW bridge highlights the remarkable
power and performance capabilities of the Qualcomm Atheros AR9580
solution,” said Patrick Ribardiere, director of product management,
networking business unit, Qualcomm Atheros.
“Integrating Qualcomm Atheros’ VoW technology with
EDIMAX’s networking capabilities provides new opportunities for carriers
looking to strengthen and expand their abilities to wirelessly deliver
next-generation video content,” Ribardiere added.
“We believe the new VoW bridge will help to make
wireless HD video a reality for a broader group of users, as our carrier
customers can now more quickly deliver services with exponentially better
streaming performance,” said Leon Lin, vice president of EDIMAX.
Recently, Integrated Device Technology and Qualcomm
announced their agreement
to transfer the design team of IDT’s Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) and Frame
Rate Conversion (FRC) Video Processing product lines and certain related assets
to Qualcomm.
Both companies will also explore opportunities to include
IDT’s broad portfolio of mixed-signal products into Qualcomm reference
designs. The all-cash transaction has received appropriate corporate
approvals and is anticipated to close in the coming weeks, subject to the
completion of certain closing conditions.
