OTT vendor LINE Q2 revenue up 17.5 percent to JPY 21.2 billion

Free call and messaging app vendor LINE today said its second quarter revenue increased 17.5 percent to JPY 21.2 billion over the previous quarter.

The OTT company said the revenue for LINE Corporation’s core business, LINE, rose 25 percent to JPY 18.2 billion over the previous quarter and a 146 percent increase over the same quarter in the previous year.

LINE user numbers increased in Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia. Its platform-based strategy has been successful in Mexico, Colombia, and other Central and South American countries, leading to even further increases in new user numbers and an overall expansion in worldwide use.

The LINE Creators Market generated over JPY 150 million in total sales in the first month thanks to the company’s sticker localization efforts.

The company said its advertising business rose.

LINE Corporation CEO Akira Morikawa said: “Amid fierce competition, LINE has continued to grow in terms of user base and on the revenue side as well.”
