Nokia Networks in GSM-R deal with Bombardier and ADIF

Nokia Networks today it has been selected by Bombardier to deploy Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) infrastructure for ADIF’s Valladolid-Leon and Venta de Banos-Burgos train line lines.

In addition, Nokia Networks will supply GSM-R communications to ADIF for the La Robla-Pola de Lena train line.

Nokia Networks is deploying an ERTMS compliant GSM-R network that provides voice communication between train drivers and the operation center. The new radio network also enables faster deployment of ERTMS level 2 safety systems on train lines.

The company said it is supplying Flexi Base Stations, fiber optic orepeaters and Transcoder / Sub-Multiplexer (TCSM) as part of its GSM-R radio network equipment.

As per the railway technology sourcing deal, Nokia Networks is providing network operations, network design, project execution, network implementation and maintenance services. Nokia’s NetActnetwork management system will be deployed to ensure network efficiency and stability for ADIF.

Nokia Networks, which competes with ZTE, has deployed 29 GSM-R networks across more than 20 countries and serving over 70,000 km of railways globally.
