Mortgage lender PrimeLending banks on HP to secure assets

HP announced that residential mortgage originator
PrimeLending has selected HP TippingPoint to improve security for virtualized
environments and reduce time spent on security administration by up to 40
percent.

PrimeLending produced in excess of $7.7 billion in
residential loans last year. As PrimeLending’s business grew, the company
needed to upgrade its infrastructure, which included virtualizing more than
half of its critical applications.

The company’s legacy security solutions were unable to
provide insight into the data exchanged between the new virtual machines.
Without proper insight and control, many of PrimeLending’s vital assets could
have been vulnerable to attack.

In order to protect one of our most valuable assets –
our customer data – we needed to rethink our approach to security as we
virtualized our environment. With HP TippingPoint solutions, we have added
extra measures of security to help protect our virtual assets and have reduced
time spent on security administration in the process,” said Johnny Hernandez,
vice president, Information Security, PrimeLending.

PrimeLending deployed two HP TippingPoint S660N Intrusion Prevention System
(IPS) appliances and 50 HP TippingPoint vControllers to secure 25 servers
hosting hundreds of virtual machines.

This has enabled the company to provide automatic and
consistent network protection as virtual machines are created or moved across
the enterprise.

PrimeLending decreased security administration time by 40
percent with hands-off security monitoring and automatic application of security
policies; Increased insight into virtual machine traffic with real-time
deep-packet inspection;

It reduced complexity with a common, consistent security
framework that spans physical and virtual servers with one appliance.

The company received real time security protection with
intrusion-prevention intelligence from HP’s Digital Vaccine Labs (DVLabs),
delivering filters to the HP TippingPoint IPS which provides zero-day
protection against the industry’s latest malicious attacks.

HP TippingPoint security solutions form an integral part
of the HP FlexNetwork architecture, the industry’s only unified architecture
for the data center, campus and branch, enabling enterprises to fully harness
the power of media-rich content, virtualization, mobility and cloud computing.

Recently HP announced
that it has appointed John Visentin as executive vice president of HP
Enterprise Services.

Visentin will be responsible for driving growth in HP
Enterprise Services, which delivers technology infrastructure, applications and
business services. He will become a member of the company’s Executive Council,
reporting directly to Leo Apotheker, HP president and chief executive officer.
