Indian telecom operators gross revenue up 8.2 percent to Rs 49243 crore in Q4

Telecom Lead India: Indian telecom operators have
reported 8.2 percent increase in gross revenue of Rs 49242.99 crore in
the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2012 against Rs 45513.05 crore in the same
quarter last year.

However, telecom service providers gross revenue declined by
0.25 percent on q-o-q basis.

 

Access services contributed 78.10 percent of the total
revenue of telecom services. In Access services Gross Revenue & Spectrum
Charges increased by 2.00 percent & 1.45 percent respectively while AGR
& License Fee decreased by 0.11 percent and 0.24 percent respectively
during the quarter.

 

Monthly ARPU based on AGR for access services is Rs 97 for
the quarter ended March 2012.

 

The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from
926.53 million at the end of December 2011 to 951.34 million at the end of
March 2012, registering 2.68 percent growth over the previous quarter as
against 2.16 percent during the December 2011.

 

This reflects year-on-year growth of 12.41 percent over the
same quarter of last year.

 

The overall Tele-density in India has reached 78.66 as on 31 March,
2012.

 

Subscription in Urban Areas grew from 611.19 million at the
end of December 2011 to 620.53 million at the end of March 2012, taking the
Urban Teledensity from 167.85 to 169.55.

 

Rural subscription increased from 315.33 million to 330.82
million, and the Rural Teledensity

increased from 37.48 to 39.22. Share subscription in of
Rural areas in total subscription has increased from 34.03 percent at the end
of December 2011 to 34.77 percent at the end of March 2012.

 

About 37.61 percent of the total net additions have been in
Urban areas as compared to 49.87 percent in the previous quarter. Rural
subscription growth rate increased from 3.22 percent in QE December 2011 to
4.91 percent in QE March 2012, and Urban subscription growth rate declined from
1.63 percent in QE December 2011 to 1.53 percent in QE March 2012.

 

With 25.33 million net additions during the quarter, total
wireless (GSM + CDMA) subscriber base registered a growth of 2.83 percent over
 the previous quarter and increased from 893.84 million at the end of
December 2011 to 919.17 million at the end of March 2012. The year-on-year
growth rate of Wireless subscribers for March 20 is 13.26 percent. Wireless
Teledensity increased from 74.15 at the end of December 2011 to 76.00 at the
end of March 2012.
