Telecom Lead India: Idea Cellular managing
director Himanshu Kapania has been selected as the chairman of the
Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), an industry body representing
GSM mobile phone companies.
Himanshu Kapania has been elected as the new chairman at
the Annual General Body Meeting, held on 30th July 2012.
Additionally, Marten Pieters, managing director and chief
executive officer of Vodafone has also been elected as the Vice-Chairman of the
industry body.
Earlier, Bharti Airtel’s chief executive
officer Sanjay Kapoor held the position at COAI for 2011-12.
In his address as COAI Chairman, Kapania said the
poster boy of India’s growth story (telecom sector) is going through an
uncertain government policy and regulatory environment. The sector witnessed a
series of unprecedented hardships and policy reversals
Himanshu Kapania possesses over 25 years of experience in
telecom and other industries.
On the other hand, Marten Pieters has been associated
with Vodafone since February 2009. He holds over 3 decades of industry
experience in international and domestic markets.
