Global wireless packet core equipment market to reach $6 billion by 2016: Dell’Oro Group

Telecom Lead India: The global wireless packet core
equipment market is expected more than double in size to reach almost $6
billion by 2016, with key systems vendors such as Ericsson, Huawei and Cisco
Systems to reap benefits from the growth.

The report suggested that the market growth will largely
be supported by Evolved Packet Core, the emerging segment of this market with
expected $3 billion revenues by 2016, according to Dell’Oro Group.

The Dell’Oro Group report said that the Evolved Packet
Core segment growth will be driven by the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network
capital spending.

Evolved Packet Core equipment enables 4G data services
and is backwards compatible to 3G.

Chris DePuy, analyst at Dell’Oro Group said that the
Evolved Packet Core products are both the data throughput system enablers and
the traffic charging systems that allow operators to manage interactions with
customers.

The report also anticipated that the more mature
Traditional Packet Core product revenues will experience low single digits
compounded annual growth rates between 2011 and 2016 as Evolved Packet Core
devices become the more prevalent system deployed.

Additionally, the report also predicted that the PCRF
market will reach nearly $700 million in 2015.

Evolved packet core revenues to grow 100 percent through 2015

Last year, Dell’Oro Group predicted that the wireless
packet core equipment market will grow more than 20 percent annually to reach
almost $6 billion by 2015.
