Belgacom to use Alcatel-Lucent’s digital media store to manage entertainment services

Belgacom, Belgium’s telecom operator, announced that it
selected the Alcatel-Lucent Digital Media Store to ensure seamless availability
of content wherever it is needed.

The line between traditional broadcast TV and online
multimedia content is blurring as consumers embrace a multi-screen digital
lifestyle. Our close collaboration with Belgacom demonstrates how this
multi-screen opportunity can be seized. It also shows how Alcatel-Lucent can
help major service providers develop solutions that attract and retain
subscribers, secure a central role in the multimedia value chain, and generate
sustainable media revenue across every screen,” said Luc Defieuw, CEO
Alcatel-Lucent.

The Digital Media Store enables operators to offer
consumers a personalized and interactive digital entertainment experience,
tailored to their choice from the breadth of ‘smart’ connected devices
available today and in the future.

The Digital Media Store provides operators with an online
content store that enables the delivery of a variety of services including
video, music, applications and e-books.

Alcatel-Lucent’s Digital Media Store meets Belgacom’s
vision for the handling, processing and delivery of digital entertainment
content. Its multi-screen and multi-content capabilities will allow Belgacom to
expand beyond the delivery of standard IPTV services, to support innovative new
services and devices as they become available which in turn will help to
increase subscriber loyalty.

Recently, Alcatel-Lucent and Belgacom, the largest
telecommunications company in Belgium, announced that they are introducing innovations to
increase access speeds to the Internet.

The two companies are introducing the latest technology
to enhance the offering of broadband services throughout Belgium.
