Ericsson India says it is expanding its OSS/BSS reach to both telecoms and enterprises across the country.
Specifically, Ericsson will be looking at building its OSS business for Smart City projects and Digital India initiatives announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ericsson currently works with most of the Indian telecom operators. The company’s recent acquisitions have enabled Ericsson to strengthen focus on enterprise space.
According to Transparency Market Research, the global OSS/BSS market will grow from $21.86 billion in 2013 to $49.78 billion in 2020, registering a CAGR of 12.7 percent.
Ericsson globally generated SEK 12.7 billion revenue from support solutions in 2014.
Ericsson, which has found a place in the leaders’ quadrant for the third consecutive year in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operations Support Systems, will be looking at opportunities in the increasing adoption of convergent billion systems.
Nishant Batra, head of Engagement Practices for Ericsson India, said: “The demand for converged charging and mobile broadband charging in real-time will be the key trends in the Indian OSS space. Triple play will take innovation in this space to the next level.”
Main factors that limit market expansion include difficulty faced by innovative OSS/BSS solutions in integrating with conventional systems and certain regulatory issues.
Ericsson’s Nishant Batra says innovation makes the difference for Ericsson’s OSS/BSS solutions. The focus of the innovation will be to better customer experience. Ericsson is investing heavily in innovating OSS/BSS solutions. Ericsson India has research and development teams in Chennai and Gurgaon, India. They develop customized BSS solutions for Indian telecom operators.
In fact, Ericsson has been named the overall telecoms software revenue leader by Analysys Mason. The report published in August also ranks Ericsson first in market share across 18 key segments, including service fulfillment, service delivery platforms, and network management systems.
The total telecom IT Services market will grow from $67.38 billion in 2014 to $233.05 billion in 2019 at a CAGR of 28.2 percent.
One of the major trends upcoming in the market is the increased demand for customized OSS/BSS software. Telecom operators are shifting from a technology-centric business model to a customer-centric one. Hence, these operators adopt customized OSS/BSS software that enables them to offer bundled services to users.
“OSS/BSS software implementation and maintenance requires a trained workforce, therefore most operators see outsourcing their OSS/BSS functions to managed service providers as the more cost-effective approach,” said Faisal Ghaus, vice president of TechNavio.
The global OSS/BSS software market is expected to post a CAGR of 17.85 percent from 2015-2019, according to TechNavio.
Ericsson’s Nishant Batra says improving network efficiency, resolving customer issues and time to market will be some of the key focus areas in the OSS space.
