Skyworth leads Indian STB market in Q2, ahead of Cisco, Skynet

Skyworth is leading the Indian Set Top Box (STB) market in the second quarter of 2013, ahead of Cisco and Skynet.

Skyworth, Cisco and Skynet collectively constitute 59 percent of the total market share in terms of total unit shipments.

Skynet with a market share of 10 percent in Q2 2013 superseded Coship and emerged as the third largest player.

Skynet shipments rose 283 percent.

Cisco experienced 10 percent dip in Q2 2013 in the Indian Set Top Box market.

The size of Indian STB market in Q2 2013 was 55, 58,910, according to a report in Research and Markets.

Domestic production experienced a decline of 60 percent in Q2 2013 as opposed to the previous quarter.

Set top boxes under the price range of INR 2000 account for more than 80 percent for both the quarters.

The DVB-C type of set top boxes accounted for more than 80 percent of the total unit shipments and exhibited a growth of 12 percent in Q2 2013 as compared to the previous quarter for the Indian STB market.

The DVB-C (Cable) type of set top boxes increased 12 percent for Q2.

However, overall shipments for DTH type of set top boxes witnessed a decline of around 45 percent for CY Q2 2013.

Major players like Skyworth, Cisco and Skynet capitalized on the current digitization of cable TV networks as regulated by the government in India.
