Fabric’s September 2025 global update on streaming services highlights major developments across several markets.

Latin America
Over half (53 percent) of platforms in the Latin America region are running promotional offers, with 67 percent of these being free trials. The new MELI+ promotion was introduced in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil, providing subscription discounts for the first four months—Argentina (61 percent), Chile (63 percent), Colombia (60 percent), and Brazil (60 percent).
In Mexico, ViX launched ViX Música on September 17, a new section focused on Latin music featuring live concerts, festivals, award shows, documentaries, and original series such as Yuridia in Concert, BMF Fest, Premios Juventud, Global Citizen Festival, and the Latin GRAMMYs.
Meanwhile, Telefonica Venezuela introduced Movistar Go, a new streaming pay-TV service that offers live channels, on-demand content, and movies, positioning it as a flexible digital alternative to traditional cable services.
North America
ViX introduced ViX Música in the United States on September 17, bringing Latin music to U.S. audiences through concerts, interviews, documentaries, and original programs like Yuridia in Concert, BMF Fest, Premios Juventud, and the Latin GRAMMYs.
Scholastic, in partnership with 9 Story Media Group, launched a free, ad-supported kids’ streaming service on Roku and Amazon Fire TV featuring around 400 hours of educational content such as Clifford the Big Red Dog and The Magic School Bus.
In Canada, CosmoBlue Media debuted CosmoGO, offering over 10,000 titles across multiple business models, including subscription, ad-supported, and pay-per-view.
In the U.S., KPBS+ launched as a free streaming platform with more than 11,000 PBS and KPBS shows, including local productions and classics like Masterpiece and NOVA.
Meanwhile, Joe Hand Promotions announced a new live sports streaming app for venues, set to launch on October 1, 2025, to broadcast boxing, MMA, and other sports events. In contrast, Amazon officially shut down its ad-supported service Freevee, consolidating its streaming content under Prime Video to streamline its offerings.
Europe, Middle East, Africa
In EMEA, pay TV penetration reaches 44 percent, second only to APAC at 52 percent, with over 100 European platforms offering ad-supported subscription plans. Prime Video will introduce its Ad-Free plan in Sweden from October 7.
Canal+ has acquired South Africa’s MultiChoice, strengthening its presence in African pay-TV and streaming while maintaining DStv services and exploring further digital expansion.
In Belarus, A1 launched a subscription for the streaming service Viju, offering movies, series, and live TV to broaden its digital entertainment offerings.
Amazon has shut down its Freevee service in Europe, consolidating content under Prime Video to enhance its core streaming business.
Asia
In the Asia-Pacific region, 69 percent of households watch online content on smartphones, the region’s most popular device, and 41 percent of streaming services have partnerships with other companies.
Kazakhstan launched its first streaming service, Unico Play, offering local and international movies, TV shows, originals, and curated content for domestic audiences.
HBO Max will expand into eight APAC markets, including Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, bringing its library of movies, series, and originals to new audiences.
The Philippines will see the launch of the JuanFlix mobile app on September 27, featuring a curated library of Filipino films, both free and subscription-based.
In Saudi Arabia, the Public Investment Fund acquired a majority stake in MBC Group, gaining control of the region’s largest private broadcaster to boost media influence and content production.
Other updates
Bending Spoons has acquired Vimeo, bringing the video platform into its portfolio alongside apps like Evernote and Splice, while continuing to serve creators and businesses worldwide.
MMAF TV relaunched with Joymo to stream amateur martial arts competitions, offering live and on-demand access to grassroots fighters.
Whale TV expanded its platform with an on-demand content library and a web-based version, enhancing flexibility for viewers.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s split has triggered acquisition interest, with Paramount-Skydance, Netflix, and Comcast among potential bidders, though regulatory hurdles remain.
Miami-based Third Horizon launched Anansi TV, a streaming service dedicated to Caribbean films, giving regional creators a global platform. Hope Media introduced JPlus, a global streaming service featuring faith-based and family-friendly content, including on-demand shows, live events, and original programming. Glasgow Clan, in partnership with Premier Sports, launched a new platform to stream live games and exclusive content, increasing accessibility for fans domestically and internationally.
