Cisco powers 100G for Zhejiang Wasu Cable TV Network

Telecom Lead Asia: Cisco has supplied ASR 9000 Aggregation Services Router and coherent DWDM line cards to Zhejiang Wasu Cable TV Network for its 100G IP+DWDM backbone network.

The 100G network that relies on the Cisco ASR 9000 Aggregation Services Router and coherent DWDM line cards on the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) will aim at supporting cloud-based video and data services and increasing ability to launch new revenue-generating services.

The cable operator will use new cloud computing platforms to upgrade to all-digital, two-way cable TV network. The connected Smart Zhejiang and Digital Homes and the delivery of city cloud, home cloud, cloud TV, and cloud communication services in the Zhejiang province of China will help the cable operator generate more revenues.

Wasu’s video on demand (VoD) and Internet services are connected to the new 100G backbone network. Using a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem termination system (CMTS), each set-top box can provide an average 200 Mbps video stream.

Cisco’s IP+100G DWDM backbone enabled Wasu to launch new cloud services to improve the customer experience. Its new services called Cloud Broadband enable subscribers to access Wasu’s VoD content on a range of network access devices, from TVs to smartphones and tablets.
