TRAI to present net neutrality recommendations in a month

TRAI Chairman RS Sharma in India
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman RS Sharma today said TRAI is aiming to present its recommendations on net neutrality guidelines within a month.

TRAI has already conducted three open house discussions and debates in order to prepare its key recommendations on net neutrality guidelines.

TRAI’s recommendations will need to be presented to the India Government for final approval by the Cabinet.

Big OTT and content companies and leading telecom operators have already presented their ideas on net neutrality rules for India.

“I think today’s discussion on net neutrality was fruitful. This is the third in the series of discussions that we had on net neutrality,” RS Sharma told reporters after the open house discussion in Delhi on Wednesday.

“TRAI should be able to propose to the government appropriate recommendations, which they have asked for on the issue of net neutrality…should not take more than a month. There is a huge amount of literature and thoughts. It should not take more than a month,” RS Sharma said.

Though TRAI looks at all international experiences, but most importantly this whole concept should be guided by the Indian context.
