Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has inaugurated BSNL Wi-Fi offer in Varanasi.
The launch in Varanasi is part of BSNL’s plan to offer Wi-Fi across 2,500 cities and towns.
The Wi-Fi service in Varanasi will be free for the first few minutes and thereafter will be chargeable as per the prescribed rates.
The minister today said BSNL will provide Wi-Fi in locations such as Thanjaur-Brihadeshwar, Shore Temple and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh, Hampi in Karnataka, Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh and Konark Temple in Odisha.
On February 6, PTI reported that BSNL plans to launch Wi-Fi service in Lucknow, Chennai, Bhopal, Patna, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Pune, Mysore, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
The cost of nationwide Wi-Fi program will be nearly Rs 7,000 crore under which about 60,000 such hotspots will be created.
