NEC completes optical submarine cable for BSNL

NEC India announced the completion of the optical submarine cable system connecting Chennai, India and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (A&N Islands) for Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL).

NEC Corporation has manufactured the optical submarine cable and provided technical assistance during the turnkey implementation of the optical submarine cable system.

“NEC has been steadfast in its commitment to deliver excellence in innovation in all our areas of operation and this project is a testament to our unwavering dedication,” Aalok Kumar, president and & CEO, NEC Corporation India, said.

The cable system, spanning approximately 2,300km with 100Gb/s optical waves, connects Chennai to Port Blair and the islands of Havelock, Little Andaman (Hutbay), Car Nicobar, Kamorta, the Great Nicobar Islands, Long Island and Rangat.

The cable system provides the A&N Islands with bandwidth for supporting voice and data connectivity that enable the implementation of e-Governance initiatives, such as the establishment of new enterprises and e-commerce facilities.
