PM-designate Narendra Modi is likely to keep IT and telecom portfolio with him, media reports quoting sources said.
The IT and Telecom Minister has a bigger role to play as during the UPA regime led by Congress party, the telecom sector received a severe blow due to the 2G telecom scam and lukewarm response from spectrum allocation.
Currently, lack of spectrum, broadband connectivity, spectrum pricing are some of the issues bothering the sector.
Besides, eGovernance and many policy related issues should be looked into.
Meanwhile, Nripendra Mishra, a former chairman of TRAI, will be appointed as the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the PMO, media reports quoting sources said.
During October 2005 to March 2006 he served as the secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and then was appointed as chairman of TRAI until March 2009.
He was a key prosecutor in the 2G scam trial. Under his regime, licenses were allotted as per former telecom minister A Raja’s directions.
