The government said Indian telecom operators completed four rounds of bidding till now in spectrum auction that started today at 9am. It received bids for both the 1800 MHz and 900 MHz bands.
UPDATED: Telecom operators have completed seven rounds of bidding on day one.
The spectrum auction for the 1800 MHz and 900 MHz band began in Delhi on Monday morning at 9 AM.
The government said telecom operators submitted bids for all 22 telecom circles in 1800 MHz band and in all 3 telecom circles in 900 MHz band.
Thus, bidding has taken place in all the service areas in both bands. This shows that the government is likely to achieve its minimum target of Rs 11,300 crore.
Earlier, PTI reported the 3G auction in 2010 lasted for 34 days, while the auction in November 2012 lasted for 2 days and March auction last year lasted for only one day.
In November 2012, bids worth Rs 9,407 crore were received for spectrum worth Rs 28,000 that was offered.
In March 2013, no GSM operators bid at the auction and only CDMA operator Sistema Shyam (MTS India) bought spectrum of about Rs 3,600 crore in eight of the 21 service areas.
Indian wireless operators such as Reliance Communications, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Tata Teleservices, Bharti Airtel, Aircel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone and Uninor are participating in the 2G spectrum sell off.
