The telecommunications giant, known for its provision of video, broadband, and phone services, confirmed the breach and promptly notified federal law enforcement agencies while initiating a comprehensive investigation into the matter, Reuters news report said.

The breach compromised a trove of customer data, raising alarms regarding the potential exposure of sensitive information. Xfinity disclosed that the accessed data likely included usernames, hashed passwords, contact information, and the last four digits of social security numbers. This breach has consequently triggered concerns about the security and privacy of its vast customer base.

Xfinity attributed the breach to a vulnerability within Citrix software. The company reassured customers that the identified software-related risk has since been addressed and resolved, aiming to prevent any further unauthorized access.

Despite the breach being initially detected on October 25 during routine cybersecurity protocols, comprehensive data analysis is still underway. The company continues its efforts to assess the full extent of the breach and the potential impact on its customers.

This incident raises substantial concerns about the security infrastructure of major telecommunications providers and emphasizes the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard sensitive customer information. Xfinity remains committed to transparency and ensuring the security of its customers’ data as the investigation progresses.
